The 4th edition of the traditional Dzotikpeza Festival 2026 in Ando Feme was not only a celebration of cultural heritage and community identity. It also marked a significant step forward in digital inclusion. On this occasion, the Entente des Spécialistes Togolais en Technologies de l’Information et de la Communication (ESTETIC) officially launched its initiative titled “Internet to the Last Mile.”
The objective is clear: extend connectivity to rural communities that remain underserved by conventional networks and help bridge the digital divide.
A Pilot Project to Unlock Rural Connectivity
Designed as a concrete development initiative, the project provides Wi-Fi access to the community of Ando Feme, creating new pathways for educational, economic, and administrative opportunities.
The launch ceremony was attended by several administrative and security officials, including Francis Ayida, Secretary General of the Avé 1 Prefecture; Ms. Guidi Ayawa Meduwodzi, Prefectural Director of Environment; Dr. Katelewena Bayouma from the Ministry of Security; as well as representatives from the National Civil Protection Agency (ANPC), the National Police, and the Gendarmerie.
A Vision Rooted in Digital Sovereignty
For Kwaku Agbeko Dogba, President of ESTETIC, the project demonstrates Togo’s capacity to rely on its own expertise to address national development challenges.
He emphasized that the most complex structural phase of the project has already been completed. The association is now focused on ensuring sustainability through solidarity and resource pooling. The initiative was designed by ESTETIC, technically implemented by IDS Technologies, and supported in terms of bandwidth by CAFE Informatique.
Beyond simple connectivity, the ambition is broader: connect schools, train local populations in the use of online administrative services—particularly through the national platform service-public.gouv.tg and open Ando Feme to global economic opportunities.
100% Togolese Technical Expertise
The technical deployment was overseen by Daya Minlekibe, CEO of IDS Technologies and First Vice President of ESTETIC.
He noted that major telecom operators often prioritize densely populated urban centers for profitability reasons. In lower-density areas, public institutions and professional associations must play a complementary role. In this context, ESTETIC positions itself as a strategic partner supporting nationwide digital development.
Wi-Fi as a Lever for Local Empowerment
Within the community, the initiative has generated strong enthusiasm. Daniel Yao Tsinyo, a member of the organizing committee, stressed that internet access represents a major opportunity for local youth. In his view, technology has become a key driver of progress. Providing Wi-Fi access will enable young people to broaden their knowledge, access educational resources, and actively contribute to the development of their community.
For his part, Mawuena Ayivi, President of the Organizing Committee, highlighted the unifying spirit of the festival. He likened the community to a large family with the responsibility to come together and collectively reflect on ways to support national development efforts.
Where Tradition Meets Digital Transformation
The symbolic meaning of Dzotikpeza also known as the “Festival of Fire” resonated even more strongly this year. In Ando Feme, the sacred flame of cultural identity continues to burn, now accompanied by a new light: digital connectivity.
This fourth edition therefore reflects a dual dynamic preserving ancestral heritage while opening the community to the opportunities of a connected world.
