Recently, the “Hong Kong Open Source Technology Application and Ecosystem Development Forum,” hosted by the Hong Kong Institute of Innovation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was held at Hong Kong Cyberport. Dr. Yanping Xiang, CEO of AICT, was invited to attend.
Centered around the core principles of “open source, collaboration, and empowerment,” the forum covered multiple areas such as open-source technology research and development, application implementation, and ecosystem building. As a diversified exchange platform, it brought together industry, academia, and research forces to explore the construction of a secure, trustworthy, and dynamic open-source technology ecosystem in Hong Kong, leveraging open-source innovation to empower digital transformation and intelligent upgrades across various industries. During the roundtable discussion, Dr. Yanping Xiang engaged in discussions with Mutian Yang, CEO of Beijing Microblue Co., Ltd.; Che Pinjue, Senior Advisor of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence; and Li Haoyang, Head of Regulatory Technology at the Banking Supervision Department of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, focusing on the core topic of “Building a Secure and Trustworthy Open-Source Ecosystem.”
In the discussion, Dr. Xiang noted that in today’s rapidly evolving digital era, open-source technology has become a key force driving innovation and transformation across industries. It provides many enterprises with low-cost, high-efficiency innovative solutions. However, while enjoying the conveniences brought by open-source technology, enterprises must also deeply recognize the importance of security and trustworthiness. In key application areas of the AI industry, high precision, reliability, and security are all essential to ensure the commercial viability of AI systems. This is especially critical for AI applications serving the public, where scientific rigor is paramount.
Therefore, he emphasized that when applying AI open-source technologies, enterprises must establish rigorous security assessment and tiered certification mechanisms to ensure that the AI open-source components used meet safety standards. Applying artificial intelligence technology to review and security testing of open-source code can significantly improve the efficiency and accuracy of security inspections, enabling timely identification of potential risks. Dr. Xiang expressed confidence that, through the joint efforts of all parties, Hong Kong can build a secure, trustworthy, and vibrant open-source technology ecosystem, contributing to the global development of open-source technology.
