As the viral popularity of Pang Donglai supermarket drives a tourism boom, Xuchang has faced mounting traffic pressure—with over 300,000 motor vehicles and key commercial areas serving 100,000+ visitors daily. “Getting to Pang Donglai takes longer than shopping there” became a common complaint.
In September 2025, Xuchang traffic police partnered with Baidu Intelligent Cloud to deploy a SaaS traffic control system, addressing challenges with three key advantages:
- No roadside hardware required, using Baidu Maps floating vehicle data for real-time perception
- AI-powered global control algorithms dynamically optimize traffic signals
- Implementation completed in under two weeks at one-tenth of traditional costs
Powered by the “Famou” intelligent agent, the system delivered measurable results by October 22:
- Intersection delays in pilot zones dropped by 13.39%
- Key corridors Tianbao Road and Xinxing Road saw 28.08% lower vehicle delays
- Rush hour travel speeds improved by 13-15%
- Residents reported trips now taking 3.5 minutes versus 5 minutes previously.
The solution extends to smart parking—Baidu Maps integrates real-time data from 20 parking lots, recommending available spaces and optimal routes to reduce circling.
From adaptive signals to guided parking, this integrated approach is making “continuous green lights” the new reality in Xuchang, showcasing how technology can build warmer, more efficient cities.
